The Mahle-Behr thermostat assembly, part number 11531436386, is designed to maintain optimal engine temperature for select BMW models. This map-controlled thermostat opens at 105°C and comes complete with its housing and an o-ring, ensuring a straightforward installation. A malfunctioning thermostat can cause significant engine issues, ranging from overheating due to a stuck-shut unit to prolonged warm-up times and increased wear from a thermostat stuck open. Signs of a bad thermostat include engine overheating, lack of cabin heat when the vehicle is in motion, or visible coolant leaks. It is recommended to service the cooling system and replace the thermostat every 60,000 miles to prevent these issues. This thermostat assembly is specifically designed for the following BMW vehicles: E38 740i and 740iL with M62 4.4L engines produced from 09/1998 onwards, E39 540i with M62 4.4L engines produced from 09/1998 onwards, and E53 X5 models equipped with M62 4.4L or 4.6L engines. Fitment for the E52 Z8 Alpina with an M62 4.8L engine should be confirmed using a vehicle selector.
