Overview

It operates using millimeter-wave radar technology and communicates via the CAN protocol. This sensor requires professional electronic calibration after installation to ensure proper function of ADAS features.
Show original supplier description
The Volkswagen Blind Spot Detection System Warning Sensor (Part Number 2Q0907686H) is a critical ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) component that functions as part of the vehicle's blind spot monitoring system. This Hella-manufactured sensor utilizes millimeter-wave radar technology, operating in the 24 GHz or 77 GHz frequency band, and communicates with the vehicle's network via the CAN protocol. Replacing this sensor involves a two-stage process. Physical installation requires removing the front bumper cover, disconnecting the electrical connector, and unbolting the old sensor. However, the crucial second stage is electronic calibration, which aims the sensor precisely and informs the vehicle's computer of its exact position. This calibration step is mandatory for the system to function and requires specialized diagnostic tools, an ADAS calibration rig, and a level surface, making it a professional-only procedure. Without successful calibration, ADAS features like ACC and Front Assist will remain unavailable, displaying a warning message on the dashboard. It is vital to match the OEM part number EXACTLY, including the suffix letter, as different software versions are not interchangeable and will lead to calibration failure. Visual inspection of the used sensor is also recommended, checking the housing for cracks, the lens for damage, the connector pins for corrosion, and mounting tabs for integrity. While a used OEM sensor offers significant savings compared to a new one, it is essential to verify its compatibility with your specific vehicle's year, make, and model, as well as any specific production date or VIN-related fitment notes, such as the warning for the 2024 Volkswagen Taos manufactured before February 19, 2024. Low battery voltage or corrosion in the wiring connector can also cause system failures, so these should be considered before sensor replacement.
