Wideband O2 sensors use a sophisticated sensing element to produce a precise output proportional to the air/fuel ratio. Building on the planar sensor base, wideband sensors provide the ECU with an exact AFR response, leading to better performance, lower emissions, and increased gas mileage. Planar sensors utilize the same zirconia ceramic sensing technology as thimble sensors but in a more compact version. The heater and small sensing element are contained in the small, thin, flat tip, enabling a smaller, lighter design that requires less power. This smaller design allows the sensor to be used in tighter areas. Wideband planar sensors use 5 or more wires. Denso wideband AF sensors meet or exceed OE specifications.
