The resistance changes as the spring compresses, becoming gradually firmer as the weight on the spring is increased. The springs contain a "comfort range" with closely spaced coils to give a smooth ride. It is also available in the "load range," which has widely spaced coils to reduce deflection and preserve chassis height when the vehicle has more loads.
