The Megasquirt MS3 PNP BMW M42 is an advanced standalone ECU engineered specifically for the BMW E30 and E36 M42 engines, including the 318i, 318is, and 318ti models. This ECU enhances engine management capabilities with key features such as an internal 400kpa MAP sensor, making it ideal for boosted applications. It comes preloaded with optimized basemaps for both naturally aspirated (NA) and turbocharged configurations, though users may need to perform additional tuning and configuration for their specific setup. The system supports a wide range of sensors and controls, including launch control, flat gear shifts, flex fuel sensor compatibility, fan control, and boost control for turbocharged setups. For comprehensive tuning, the MS3 PNP BMW M42 is compatible with free TunerStudio software, offering detailed tuning and real-time datalogging. The autotune feature is available with the paid version of TunerStudio. It supports both VR and Hall crank/cam sensors and includes dual fuel tables for Map or Alpha-N tuning modes. The unit is custom-built to replace the original electronics, ensuring full plug-and-play functionality while maintaining compatibility with the vehicle’s original sensors and harness. It is noted as being suitable for both Vanos and non-Vanos engines.
