The Mosselman MSL Oil Thermostat is a direct replacement designed to address oil cooling challenges in BMW's N54, N55, and S55 engines. Unlike the stock thermostat, which can reach around 120 degrees Celsius during normal driving, the MSL unit opens at a significantly lower 85 degrees Celsius. This advanced control allows it to maintain a more consistent oil temperature range of 95-105 degrees Celsius, crucial for stable engine performance and enhanced reliability, particularly in vehicles that have been tuned.
