This gasket is essential for maintaining a proper seal between the engine block and the oil pan, effectively preventing oil leaks. Over time and due to heat cycles, original oil pan gaskets can crack and degrade, leading to oil seepage. Attempting to fix leaks by overtightening oil pan bolts can further damage the gasket and the small, lightly-torqued bolts. Replacing the gasket is recommended to prevent oil messes and to ensure the engine maintains adequate oil levels. Installation typically involves draining the engine oil, removing the oil pan, thoroughly cleaning both mating surfaces, and then installing the new gasket. It is crucial to tighten the oil pan bolts in the correct sequence and to the manufacturer's specified torque to prevent warping of the pan or gasket, which could lead to new leaks. This gasket is compatible with a wide range of BMW models including the 1 Series (E82/E88, F22/F23, F87), 2 Series (F22/F23, F87), 3 Series (E90-E93, F30/F31/F34, F80), 4 Series (F32/F33/F36, F82/F83), 5 Series (F10/F11), 6 Series (F12/F13), X3 (F25), X4 (F26), X5 (E70/F15), and X6 (E71/F16) equipped with N55 or S55 engines. A separate oil pan bolt set (BMW 11132210959) is recommended for installation.
