The Nismo Reinforced Close Ratio 6-Speed Transmission is engineered for drivers seeking a more engaging sports and drift experience. It optimizes gear ratios, bringing first and second gears closer to third, and sixth gear closer to fifth, for improved responsiveness. Unlike many competition-geared transmissions that may produce noisy whizzing sounds due to rougher tooth grinding, Nismo has developed specifications suitable for daily use. Durability is a key focus, with Nismo reinforcing the transmission by increasing gear diameter and module size where applicable. Even in areas where the gear ratio remains unchanged, reducing the number of counter and main gear teeth while increasing the size of individual gear teeth enhances overall strength. This design also reduces the torsion angle, thereby lessening the shock to the front of the counter-shaft caused by input torque, which helps to minimize potential damage to the counter-reverse gear. This transmission is based on the standard FS6R92A and offers an operational level superior to older competition dog or synchro transmissions. For S13 and S14 models, a speedometer drive gear must be attached as the S15 speedometer signal is derived from the ABS sensor, meaning S13 and S14 models will not have speedometer indications without this part. Nismo recommends a minimum 300km run-in period, using 75W-140 or higher grade transmission oil, and professional installation by a specialist technician. The use of a Nismo Super Coppermix Twin Plate Clutch and an uprated Propellor Shaft for S13 & S14 models is also recommended.
