The Dayco 89311 is an automatic belt tensioner designed to maintain constant tension on serpentine belt drives. Serpentine belt drives utilize a single belt to power most engine accessories. This tensioner incorporates an automatic, spring-loaded design to ensure proper tension.

Dayco's patented flat spring design offers reduced operating range variations in tension, which helps prevent premature accessory bearing failure from excessive tension and reduces belt squeal or slippage from insufficient tension. It features a Teflon strip for abrasion resistance and a coated flat spring to prevent rust. The tensioner includes a heavy-duty cast aluminum spring case and arm for strength and durability, an aluminum retainer ring, and a steel pivot tube where needed. A thermoplastic rubber plug seals the spring slot, and nylon bushings promote quieter operation. A rubber O-ring seals against contaminants, and the zinc-coated mounting bolt ensures even tension.
