The Rogue Engineering OCTANE Short Shift Kit is engineered to provide a superior shifting experience for your BMW E46 328 or 330 with a 5-speed RWD transmission. It reduces shift throw by 30-50%, enhancing the connection between driver and machine. The shifter lever features a CNC-machined 303 stainless steel upper section, adding a slight mass for improved feel. The external profile accommodates factory shift knobs, including illuminated ones. A POWERBAND feature ensures durability, while a custom-extruded neoprene rubber insert minimizes NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) and eliminates unwanted shifter free play. The lower portion is also CNC'd 303 stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Rogue Engineering utilizes an Ertalyte TX thermoplastic pivot ball, selected for its vibration-dampening qualities, built-in lubricity, and superior resistance to heat and wear, offering a 421% better coefficient of friction than stainless steel. A key component is the Weighted Selector Rod (WSR), which replaces the factory rod with a higher-mass, CNC'd 303 stainless steel version. This WSR improves shifter smoothness and virtually eliminates gearbox notchiness and noise often associated with reduced-throw shifters. While reducing throw typically increases effort, the WSR-based OCTANE kit maintains a balanced feel. All necessary hardware for a complete installation is included.
