OEM Flywheel

The LuK 9G211401222 is an OEM dual-mass flywheel designed for Porsche Boxster and Cayman models equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. This flywheel is a critical component that attaches to the engine's rear crankshaft, facilitating the transfer of power to the transmission and contributing to engine rotational balance. It also includes a toothed outer ring gear that allows the starter motor to engage and turn the engine over for starting. In operation, the flywheel works in tandem with the clutch disc. When the clutch is engaged, the clutch disc grips the flywheel, causing the transmission shaft to rotate at the same speed as the engine. When the clutch is disengaged, the disc releases, allowing for smooth gear changes. Over time, the repeated engagement and disengagement of the clutch disc can wear down the disc and cause the flywheel surface to glaze, leading to clutch slippage. At this point, both the flywheel and clutch disc typically need replacement. This dual-mass flywheel design incorporates internal springs to dampen the shock of clutch engagement between the engine and transmission. It is recommended to replace the flywheel along with a new clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and release bearing. The replacement process requires the removal of the transmission.
