Overview

The HPA Motorsports OEM+ IS38 Turbo is a turbocharger upgrade designed for MQB 2.0T engines. It serves as a direct replacement for blown OE IHI IS38 turbos and is also an upgrade option for vehicles equipped with the IS20 turbo. HPA has incorporated upgrades to the bearing system and wastegate to enhance reliability.

The turbo features precision CNC machining of intake and exhaust housings, a proprietary mixed-flow turbine wheel, and a CNC-machined billet compressor wheel for improved spool and anti-surge characteristics. It is compatible with all brands of IS38 tuning.

The HPA OEM+ IS38 Turbo is a hybrid turbocharger engineered to provide enhanced reliability and performance for MQB 2.0T engines, serving as both a service part for failed OE IS38 turbos and an upgrade for IS20 equipped vehicles. It features a completely redesigned bearing system, tested for 100% reliability on 450 HP hybrid turbos, ensuring longevity and mitigating known weaknesses of the OEM IHI turbo. Precision engineered over four years, this turbo incorporates custom CNC machining for intake and exhaust housings. It includes an HPA proprietary mixed-flow turbine wheel and a CNC-machined billet compressor wheel designed for better spool response and anti-surge capabilities, while remaining compatible with all brands of IS38 tuning. The wastegate has been upgraded to a highly heat-resistant Inconel version to prevent bending or failure under high EGTs, a common issue with OE parts, particularly for track day use. Installation is designed as a direct bolt-on replacement, coming with an HPA Turbo Muffler Delete and OEM installation kit. However, the diverter valve and electronic wastegate actuator are not included and must be purchased separately. The product is compatible with all brands of IS38 tuning and can support up to 450 HP at approximately 23-24 PSI.
