It bypasses the OEM oil thermo switch, allowing oil to flow constantly to the oil cooler, regardless of temperature. This helps prevent engine overheating, particularly during circuit driving.

During demanding driving conditions like circuit racing, oil temperatures can become excessively high, potentially leading to engine damage. The stock EVO utilizes a thermo switch that activates around 85°C (185°F), but the Tomei unit bypasses this switch entirely. By doing so, it ensures a constant flow of oil to the oil cooler, providing continuous cooling even when oil temperatures are below the OEM threshold. This constant flow design helps to prevent the engine from overheating, which is a critical concern for high-performance vehicles. For drivers in colder climates or those who experience very low oil temperatures during winter months, the Oil Thermo Killer can be easily reverted back to utilize the OEM thermo switch. This prevents the engine from overcooling, which can also negatively impact performance and engine longevity. The kit includes one Thermo Switch. The Tomei Oil Thermo Killer is compatible with the 1996-2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4/5/6/7/8/9 models equipped with the 4G63 engine, as well as the 2008-2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X models with the 4B11T engine.
