The Turner Motorsport Performance Lightweight Flywheel is engineered in-house from precision-machined 4140 HT heat-treated chromoly steel, offering a more driveable experience compared to aluminum alternatives. Its steel mass helps dampen vibrations and noise, providing near-factory refinement while offering the benefits of a lightweight design: quicker throttle response, improved durability, and more effective power transfer. This single-mass design eliminates the unreliable dual-mass system, a common upgrade target for performance engines. The flywheel features a black oxide coating for corrosion resistance on non-friction surfaces and an 8620 steel pilot bearing pin that is case hardened and precision ground for maximum wear resistance. It is precision balanced to exceed OEM specifications (G16 spec to 175g-mm) and is SFI 1.1 tested and certified, ensuring safe operation under extreme conditions. Turner Motorsport recommends specific clutch pairings: ACT Heavy Duty for street use to retain low noise and harshness, or ACT Xtreme for high-torque track applications, or the OE 335is LuK (for 440 lbs-ft or less). The step height design is optimized to maximize clamp load and the usable range of clutch wear, contributing to a long service life. This flywheel is specifically designed to work with N54 architecture clutches and offers approximately 10 lbs of weight savings over the factory flywheel (18.6 lbs vs. 28.9 lbs). While it provides performance benefits like faster revs and improved acceleration, buyers should note that audible chatter from the transmission after installation is considered normal due to less dampening in a single-mass design. This chatter may be more noticeable at higher transmission fluid temperatures and can be lessened by adjusting fluid weight, turning off accessory loads, or slightly raising RPM.
