The Motorcraft SP-546 is a high-thread platinum spark plug (PZK14F) engineered to meet strict Ford standards for durability and ignition reliability. Featuring a platinum center electrode tip, it effectively resists oxidation and arc erosion, providing long-term functionality with service intervals of up to 100,000 miles. The component utilizes a multi-rib insulator design to protect against misfires and is calibrated to help reduce fuel consumption, optimize emissions, and prevent false check engine lights. Designed as an exact-fit replacement, this plug is compatible with various Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models, specifically those equipped with 5.4L V8 and 6.8L V10 engines manufactured between 2004 and 2010. The SP-546 serves as the current official replacement for applications previously requiring the SP-515 spark plug. Installation of this spark plug requires a dedicated 9/16-inch spark plug socket. For proper operation, plugs must be torqued to 30-38Nm (22-28 ft-lbs). While the plugs are pre-gapped from the factory, they must be adjusted to the specific requirements of the vehicle, particularly in engines that have been modified with higher compression or forced induction setups, which may necessitate smaller gap settings.
