The Tomei Poncam Exhaust Camshaft 272 is a performance upgrade designed for the 2003-2006 Mitsubishi Evo VII-VIII. With a duration of 272 and a cam lift of 5.88mm, this camshaft is engineered to optimize 'velocity' and 'acceleration' for high power setups. The unique VALC profile of this camshaft deliberately reduces maximum cam velocity. This feature is crucial for direct-acting valve trains, where valve lifter diameter often dictates maximum lift. By controlling lobe travel on the lifter surface, the VALC profile prevents the camshaft lobes from exceeding the outer edge of the lifter, thus avoiding damage to both components over time and reducing overall stress and wear on the valve train. Installation of this Tomei Poncam camshaft requires specific supporting components, which are sold separately.
