The NGK R7438-8 Racing Spark Plug is engineered for extreme use and demanding race conditions, ensuring reliable ignition for tuned engines. This plug is recommended for vehicles running Stage 1 software or beyond, where factory spark plugs may fail under increased stress. The R7438-8's one-step colder heat range (Heat Range 8) helps dissipate heat from the combustion chamber, reducing the risk of pre-ignition or detonation in highly tuned applications. Its construction includes a trivalent metal plating for anti-corrosion and anti-seizing, corrugated insulator ribs to prevent flashover, and a pure alumina silicate ceramic insulator for strength and heat transfer. Installation requires careful attention: these plugs are pre-set from the factory with a delicate fine-wire iridium electrode and must not be re-gapped. They are sold individually, so ensure you purchase the correct quantity for your engine's cylinder count. The NGK R7438-8 is a popular choice for tuned VW, Audi, SEAT, and Skoda 2.0 TSI/TFSI engines, among other turbocharged performance applications.
