Randall Cowl Intake V2

The Flyin' Miata Randall Cowl Intake V2 is an innovative performance intake system for the Mazda MX-5 Miata NB (1999-2005). It addresses the common issue of under-hood intakes sucking in hot air, which reduces power. This system ingeniously utilizes the factory intake and air box while redirecting airflow to the base of the windshield. This placement offers a dual benefit: it draws in genuinely cold air from outside the engine bay, and it benefits from the high-pressure zone at the windshield base, effectively force-feeding air into the engine. The result is a dyno-proven gain of 5 horsepower at the wheels, with the hood closed for accurate testing. While it provides a subtle intake growl, it's less obtrusive than an open-filter setup. Constructed from silicone, the V2 intake is more durable and significantly easier to install than previous rigid versions. It includes a firewall plate that serves as a template for cutting the necessary hole, secures the clutch line, and features an integrated screen to prevent debris entry. A 1 3/8" (35mm) hole saw is required for installation. This intake is CARB approved (D-601-5), making it legal in all 50 states. It fits all left-hand drive NBs, with minor adjustments needed for the cruise control actuator. It is compatible with Mazdaspeed Miatas and shock tower braces, though it does not fit right-hand drive models. Using this intake with a cowl washer bottle may slightly reduce the performance gains due to proximity.
