The Maxwell RC12 Series automatic rope/chain windlass is a robust hydraulic capstan designed for demanding marine environments. It effortlessly retrieves and deploys 10mm–13mm (3/8″–1/2”) short link chain and 16mm–22mm (5/8″–7/8”) 8-Plait rope using Maxwell’s patented Wave Design™ chainwheel. This model specifically handles 12mm (1/2") chain. It is highly versatile, offering configurations like anti-clockwise (ACW) gypsy rotation, capstan, low profile, and extended deck clearance. Suitable for boats from 10m (30ft) to 20m (65ft), the RC12 balances aesthetics with rugged dependability. Key components such as the deck plate, chain pipe cover, pressure arm, stripper arm, chainwheel, and fluted capstan drum are made from marine-grade (AISI 316) stainless steel. Features include a through-deck hawse pipe for easy rode entry, a double cone-type brake/clutch mechanism for 'Free Fall' anchoring (providing smooth progressive engagement), and Maxwell’s unique 'Active Latch Ratchet System' for emergency manual retrieval, preventing backwind. The custom-designed gearbox (75:1 ratio, single-stage) offers fast installation, corrosion resistance, easy maintenance, quieter operation, and multi-positioning capabilities.
