Rear Main Seal

The Honda 91214-PLE-003 is a rear main seal, also referred to as an oil seal with dimensions of 80x100x10. It is crucial to replace this seal whenever the transmission is removed, such as during clutch jobs or engine rebuilds, as reusing an old seal, even if it appears functional, can lead to oil leaks and necessitate further disassembly. Proper installation is key to its function. Before installation, ensure the crankshaft surface and the seal bore in the engine block are clean. Any old seal material should be scraped out. The new seal must be pressed in straight using a seal driver or a large socket matching the seal's outer diameter to prevent leaks. Lubricating the seal lip with engine oil before installing the flywheel and transmission is also recommended. Ensure the transmission aligns easily with the engine; forcing it can indicate misalignment issues with the clutch disc or transmission input shaft. This seal is compatible with a wide range of Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with B, D, F, H, and G25A series engines. Specific applications include various models of the Accord, Civic, CR-V, CRX, Integra, Odyssey, Prelude, TL, Vigor, and Wagovan, spanning from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s.
