8-Plaited nylon rope is designed to eliminate common issues found with 3-strand ropes. It consists of 8 braided strands that relax when not under load and tighten when loaded, maintaining the same tensile strength as 3-strand. This design prevents coiling, "birds nests," twisting, knotting, and looping in the anchor locker. It also has less stretch, reducing damage to the windlass stripper from overload. The 8-plait rope pays off into the locker like chain, optimizing space in smaller locker designs. It is 80% less prone to stiffening in saltwater and is 1/3 more absorbent than 3-strand, leading to more weight and better fall into the anchor locker. For initial use, the rope should be soaked in water (salt or fresh) to pre-lubricate it, preventing slippage or sticking in the windlass gypsy. Its performance improves with use once wet.
