The Hondata S300 Version 3 is a sophisticated plug-in module that vastly expands the capabilities of your OBD1 Honda Engine Computer (ECU). The S300 V3 installs directly into compatible OBD1 Honda or Acura ECUs. For installation, it is crucial to note that the S300 can ONLY be installed into OBD1 ECUs. Some sources suggest that chipped ECUs can be converted for S300 installation, but this often requires professional equipment to avoid damaging the sensitive traces. While the S300 V3 itself is a module that plugs into the ECU, users may need additional components for a complete setup. Installation kits may be available that include necessary pins, capacitors, and resistors, particularly if VTEC functionality needs to be added. Compatibility is generally limited to OBD1 ECUs, and specific engine variants may have year cutoffs, such as a general fitment up to the year 2000 for certain applications, with a note about potential issues with 2001 H22A4 engines.
