The BMW shift lever, originally part number 25112228384 and superseded by 25117527254, is designed as a direct replacement for the Z3 M Roadster and M Coupe. While it is a direct fit for the specified Z3 models (1998-2002), enthusiasts often adapt it to other BMW 3 Series models for a sportier feel. However, adapting this lever to non-Z3 M models comes with a caveat. The shift lever's bend is specifically designed for the Z3 M's shifter console. When installed in other 3 Series models, the lever will not be properly centered without modification, potentially affecting the feel and centering of the gear selection. Installation on E36 M3 models is noted to reduce throw by 30%. Other listed compatible BMWs include E36 328i, 328ic, and 328is models, though fitment confirmation via vehicle selector is advised.
