Short Stack 1" Intercooler System

The ZZPerformance Short Stack Intercooler System is designed to combat the significant downfall of GM's supercharged 3800 engines: the lack of an intercooler, which causes post-supercharger air temperatures to skyrocket. This system provides a cost-effective way to reduce Knock Retard (KR) and keep intake temperatures down, preventing detonation and potential piston damage. The updated kit features a ZZP CNC aluminum short stack intercooler core, a dual-pass front mount heat exchanger, and the ZZP S1 intercooler pump. Included in the kit are 2 Garloc supercharger gaskets, 3/4" heater hose, installation instructions, all necessary hose clamps, fittings, RTV, zip ties, and longer stainless bolts for the supercharger. The intercooler core raises the supercharger by only 1 inch, ensuring it fits under any hood without modification. Installation is estimated to take 5 hours. This system requires a separate fuel rail solution, such as ZZP's Injector Spacers or Billet Fuel Logs, as well as coolant and a new supercharger belt. The Short Stack Intercooler allows for the elimination of existing KR or a .2" pulley size reduction if no KR is present. The kit is available in Gen 3 and Gen 5 configurations. Gen 3 fitment includes '97-'03 Grand Prix, '04+ Monte Carlo/Impala SS, and '97+ Buick Regal. Gen 5 is for 2004 and newer Grand Prix or vehicles with the Gen5 blower retrofitted. A fitment note indicates it has been used in some Holden/Australian applications, but full fitment and functionality cannot be confirmed. Temperature testing performed on a Gen V blower with a 2.8" pulley and 10% overdriven setup showed significant improvements: without an intercooler, IAT2 readings started at 150° and ended at 216°; with the old short stack, they were 129° to 178°; and with the new ZZP short stack, they dropped to 112° at the start and 167° at the end of a pull.
