Short Stack Intercooler System

The ZZPerformance Short Stack Intercooler System is engineered to combat high intake air temperatures and reduce Knock Retard (KR) in supercharged 3800 GM engines. This affordable system is crucial for maintaining optimal engine performance, especially when using smaller supercharger pulleys. The updated kit includes a new case design for improved fitment and utilizes a full 3/4" barb inlet and outlet for better flow. This comprehensive kit features a dual-pass front mount heat exchanger for efficient cooling and more streamlined hose routing. It also includes the ZZP S1 intercooler pump, Garloc supercharger gaskets, 3/4" heater hose, and all necessary hardware for installation, including longer stainless bolts, hose clamps, fittings, RTV, and zip ties. The short stack design raises the supercharger by only 1 inch, ensuring it fits under any hood without modification. Installation is estimated at 5 hours and is designed to retain full functionality of the stock PCV and EGR systems. The kit requires separate purchases for a fuel rail solution (Injector Spacers or Billet Fuel Logs), coolant, and a new supercharger belt. Fitment is specified for Gen 3 models ('97-'03 Grand Prix, '04+ Monte Carlo/Impala SS, '97+ Buick Regal) and Gen 5 models (2004+ Grand Prix or vehicles with the Gen 5 blower retrofitted). While it has been used in some Holden/Australian applications, full fitment and functionality cannot be confirmed. Temperature testing shows significant improvements: without an intercooler, IAT2 readings started at 150°F and ended at 216°F; with the old short stack, readings were 129°F to 178°F; and with the new ZZP short stack, readings were 112°F to 167°F.
