Sigma 5 Short Shift Kit

The Dieselgeek Sigma 5 Short Shift Kit is engineered to transform the tactile experience of your car's gear selection. By replacing stock components prone to slop and flex, this kit provides a direct, precise, and solid feel, reminiscent of performance rear-wheel-drive vehicles. At the heart of the Sigma 5 is the Dieselgeek Slider, constructed from a durable, self-lubricating structural plastic. This component precisely mates the front-to-back assembly with the side-to-side bell crank, ensuring consistent and accurate gate selection. This kit offers an approximate 30% reduction in shift throws in both directions, which is stated to be the maximum allowable before overextending the shift cables. The installation is a DIY-friendly process, typically requiring around 45 minutes, with all parts installed from the top side in the engine bay. Fitment is specific: the Five Speed Sigma Shifters are compatible with all VW, Audi, Skoda, and Seat 5-speed transmissions that feature chrome or silver shift weights. Specifically for Seat and Skoda cars, the transmission must have either the 1J0 711 051D or 1J0 711 051Q chrome shift weights. This kit is designed for Late MK4 vehicles (generally model year 2000 and later) equipped with a chrome shift weight. Early MK4 vehicles (1998-1999 models, and late 1999 GTI, Golf, Jetta) with a black shift weight are not compatible and require the 02A Deluxe shifter kit. For 2000-2001 model year cars, an OE VAG cable end from 2002 and newer cars (part numbers 1J0711761B, 1J0711761C, or 5N0711761) or Dieselgeek's aluminum side-to-side cable end is recommended. The shifter also fits 02R equipped Audi A1 and VW Polo models with the correct linkage. Note that vehicle modifications, such as engine swaps or cable clutch conversions, may require modifications for clearance, as evidenced by user feedback regarding clutch cables and motor mounts.
