The Dieselgeek Sigma 5 Speed Short Shifter, a 3rd generation redesign for 2024, offers a significant upgrade to the driving experience by transforming the feel of your manual transmission. It replaces the stock rubber-insulated cable ends and large-tolerance components with precision-engineered parts, including an all-aluminum front-to-back cable end with a steel spherical pivot bearing and fortified side-to-side cable ends featuring Perfect Pivot bushings. This shifter aims to eliminate the factory's economically designed cable ends, which can lead to imprecise shifting. By removing the rubber damping and large tolerances, the Sigma Shifter provides a light yet very positive action, mimicking the feel of a solid lever shifter from a high-performance car. The inclusion of the Dieselgeek Slider further refines gate selection and prevents the degradation common in other short shift kits, ensuring lasting precision. The Sigma Shifter is designed to fit a wide range of VW models including the MK5, MK6, and MK7 Jetta, Golf, Rabbit, Beetle, and Passat, with specific fitments for various gasoline and diesel engines, as well as 1.4T/1.5T 6-speed transmissions. It also fits Euro-spec VW Golf-based cars and North American 1.4 TSI cars with MQ250 transmissions (both 5-speed and 6-speed). However, it explicitly does not fit the Polo. Additionally, this kit serves as an excellent replacement for failing stock VW shifter levers (1K0 711 202K or 5N0 711 203A) that can seize up in the transmission's pivot tube.
