The Dieselgeek Sigma 6 Six Speed Short Shift Kit is engineered to significantly improve the tactile feedback and precision of your vehicle's gear shifting. It replaces the stock rubber-insulated cable ends, which have large tolerances, with performance-oriented components. This design eliminates free play and flexing, ensuring direct motion transfer and a more solid, precise feel reminiscent of a high-performance rear-wheel-drive car's shifter. A key innovation is the Dieselgeek Slider, which mates the front-to-back and side-to-side mechanisms for gate selection. Unlike the deteriorating plastic found in other aftermarket kits, the Sigma 6 uses a durable, self-lubricating structural plastic slider designed for longevity and consistent performance. This eliminates shifter degradation over time, providing an immediate and lasting improvement in shift quality from the very first gear change. Installation is presented as a straightforward, one-hour DIY task performed entirely in the engine bay. However, it is recommended to ensure shifter bushings are in good condition before installation, particularly for older vehicles like the Mk4. Special considerations apply to certain model years and engine types: 2000-2001 cars may require an OE VAG cable end, and aftermarket cable ends are explicitly not recommended. The Sigma 6 is not compatible with 1.4 or 1.5 TSI turbo gas engines (which use the MQ250 5-speed shifter), the MQ500 transmission found in TTRS or Tiguan models, or Polo/A1/Ibiza/Fabia variants with the MQ350 linkage. This shifter transforms a wide range of VAG vehicles, including various Golf, GTI, Jetta, Passat, Eos, Audi A3/S3, and Audi TT models from the mid-2000s to the present day. It fits all VAG cars equipped with the specified linkage.
