The Strange 28-31 Spline Alloy Axle Package provides a robust solution for performance enthusiasts seeking durable and accurate axle components. These axles are forged from modified 1550 premium steel, with the majority of machining performed before heat treatment to ensure consistent hardness. They are induction hardened to Rc 58-62, significantly increasing torsional strength while remaining ductile for reliability under stress. The final machining occurs after heat treatment, guaranteeing precise dimensions. This package includes essential components such as axle bearings, retainer plates, and a 5/8" stud kit. Various spline counts are available to match different axle configurations, including Chevy 8.2 and 8.5 10-bolt, Chevy 12-bolt, Dana 60, Ford 8.8, Ford 9", Mopar 8 3/4, and 57-64 Olds/Pontiac rearends. Specific spline counts range from 28 to 35, depending on the application. Installation considerations include potential requirements for replacement 3.150″ housing ends for all Chevy and Ford 8.8 applications. The choice of axle bearings may be limited by the housing end type; Mopar 2.875″ I.D. and Small Ford housing ends can only accommodate sealed ball bearings. Retainer plates are included with select bearing types to ensure proper axle retention. The package offers a choice of bolt-style or shank-style 5/8″-18 stud kits, available in various lengths and with different washer options.
