Stage 1 Camshafts

When installed with compatible valve springs, these cams aim to significantly improve power and torque output in the mid to high RPM ranges. ZZPerformance offers distinct cam profiles tailored for both supercharged and turbocharged setups to optimize performance based on your specific power adder. For supercharged applications, the Stage 1 cams are recommended for general builds and are designed to elevate the powerband by about 500 RPM. Stage 2 supercharged cams offer a greater increase, raising the powerband by 700-1000 RPM and targeting peak power between 7500-7800 RPM; these require an ATI balancer to manage engine vibrations at higher RPMs. Stage 3 supercharged cams are intended for dedicated race cars with high RPM powerbands and were utilized in a 401whp, 2.4L stroker engine that made peak power at 8500 RPM. For turbocharged applications, the Stage 2 turbo cams feature a 212/212 duration at .050" lift with .419" lift, centerlines at 109 intake/115 exhaust, and a duration at .006" of 256/256. These have shown good results in modified street cars. The Stage 3 turbo Reverse Split cams are designed for race setups with large exhaust wheels and free-flowing exhausts, offering a 218/210 duration at .050" with .437"/.424" lift. When replacing camshafts, it is essential to use new valve springs and retainers; ZZP recommends their 82# valve springs and retainers. Replacing or removing balance shafts with ZZP's neutral balance shafts or balance shaft delete kit is highly recommended. Additionally, the stock camshaft bolts are torque-to-yield and must be replaced with upgraded non-TTY bolts, available from ZZP. It is critical that these cams are timed correctly for the LSJ engine; ZZP cams are cut with the correct keyway location, eliminating the need for adjustable cam gears, unlike some other brands.
