Stage 1 Turbo System

The Flying Miata Stage 1 turbo system provides a significant, emissions-legal power upgrade for 1996-1997 Miatas equipped with the 1.8L engine. This kit is engineered for safe and reliable performance, delivering an estimated 175 rear-wheel horsepower, which is largely limited by the stock fuel injectors. The system includes a redesigned exhaust manifold, featuring staggered runner diameters for optimized exhaust pulse timing, faster spool, and increased power potential. This manifold is over 2.5 lbs lighter than previous designs and coated in high-temperature Cerakote for exceptional durability. The entire turbo system is built with performance, durability, and ease of installation in mind, and includes all necessary hardware, eliminating the need for extra trips to the hardware store. Fuel management is handled by the Voodoo Box, which modifies the signal to the stock injectors under boost without affecting stock drivability at idle or cruise, and requires no tuning. The included Garrett GT2560R turbocharger is well-matched to the Miata engine at this boost level. The manifold and outlet assembly has been reduced in weight by nearly 4 lbs combined. Installation requires a 37/64 drill bit and a 3/8" NPT tap for the oil drain, and M8x1.25 nuts are used as tools for installing the turbo studs. While technically compatible with the stock ECU and automatic transmission, modifications to the downpipe will be necessary to clear the automatic bellhousing, and drivability issues may arise, so this kit is not recommended for automatic cars. A new clutch is required, and cars used for track driving or in hot climates may also need a radiator upgrade. This system is CARB EO D-601-3 compliant for emissions legality across all 50 US states.
