Stage 1 Turbo System

The Flyin' Miata Stage 1 turbo system provides a significant, emissions-legal power upgrade for 1999-2000 1.8L Miata vehicles. This kit is CARB EO D-601-3 certified, making it emissions legal in all 50 states. The system is engineered for safe and reliable power gains, boosting rear-wheel horsepower to approximately 190 hp from the stock 110 hp. It utilizes redesigned manifolds with staggered runner diameters for enhanced exhaust pulse timing, faster spool, and increased power potential. These manifolds, along with the turbo outlet, are Cerakoted in C-7900 Glacier Titanium, capable of withstanding up to 1,800°F. The kit includes a high-performance intercooler with a special thermal property that allows it to shed heat effectively, ensuring consistent horsepower delivery even under demanding conditions. Fuel management is handled by the included Voodoo Box, which modifies the fuel signal under boost using stock injectors, eliminating the need for high-pressure fuel pumps or extensive tuning. The turbocharger is a Garrett GT2560R, chosen for its optimal performance on the Miata engine at this boost level, providing strong low-end boost without sacrificing top-end power. Installation of this turbo system requires some additional components and considerations. A new clutch is necessary, and cars intended for track use or operating in hot climates will benefit from a radiator upgrade. If your vehicle is equipped with ABS, the Aluminum Washer Bottle Relocation kit is required. For 1999-2000 models with California emissions (dual catalytic converters), the kit will remove the primary catalytic converter, rendering the CARB EO invalid for those specific vehicles. While technically compatible with automatic transmissions, modification of the downpipe to clear the bellhousing is expected, and a new midpipe is required; therefore, this kit is not recommended for automatic transmissions. Additional tools, such as a 37/64 drill bit and a 3/8" NPT tap, are needed for oil drain installation. Flyin' Miata offers an optional tool kit containing these items.
