The Vargas Turbocharger Technologies Stage 1 Turbocharger Upgrade is a performance-focused hybrid unit engineered to increase the capabilities of BMW N54 engines. By utilizing the stock BMW/Mitsubishi turbo housings, these assemblies maintain compatibility with existing intake hoses and plumbing while featuring a larger, higher-flow cast compressor wheel and stock turbine wheel. Each unit is rebuilt with improved internals and Vargas-designed stainless steel wastegate actuator arms, effectively resolving the common rattle issues associated with factory N54 turbo assemblies. Custom N54 tuning is recommended to properly match these upgraded turbos to your vehicle's existing modifications and performance goals. Installation by a qualified technician is suggested to ensure proper setup. Note that this product is not for sale or use in the state of California on any pollution-controlled vehicle as per the California Air Resources Board. Hardware requirements for optimal performance include upgraded silicone inlet and outlet pipes to prevent boost leaks, as these are significant failure points on the stock configuration. Additionally, Vargas recommends the use of engine oil with high ZDDP content to ensure adequate protection and cooling for the turbo bearings, as modern engine oils may lack the necessary properties for high-stress turbo applications.
