Overview

The Maximum Motorsports MMST-14 is a steering shaft assembly designed for the 1994-2004 Ford Mustang with a stock power steering rack. This assembly improves steering response by eliminating deflection from the stock rubber rag joint and reducing play in the steering wheel. It features welded U-joints with no setscrews to loosen, and attaches with a pinch-bolt clamp.

The Maximum Motorsports Steering Shaft Assembly (MMST-14) is engineered to upgrade the steering system of your 1994-2004 Ford Mustang. It directly replaces the stock rubber rag joint with a more robust assembly, featuring two race-quality needle-bearing U-joints. These U-joints are welded to the shaft for enhanced security, eliminating the risk of setscrews loosening. The primary benefit of this steering shaft is a significant improvement in steering response and a reduction in annoying play at the steering wheel. This is achieved by eliminating the deflection inherent in the stock rubber rag joint. The assembly also features a precise fitment due to its telescoping design, which accommodates different steering rack positions and allows for easier installation by enabling it to be collapsed to a shorter length than stock before being extended to fit. Key product features include U-joints welded to the shaft for durability and security, and a pinch-bolt clamp for attachment to the steering rack, mirroring OEM design. The telescoping design allows for lengthening up to 3/4" longer than the stock shaft, facilitating the repositioning of the steering rack. However, it does NOT fit the Flaming River power steering rack. Installation is supported by an article from Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords.
