The TCI Breakaway torque converter is designed as an entry-level performance upgrade for moderately modified GM street machines and weekend racers. This unit provides an approximate 1,000 RPM increase in stall speed over stock, effectively improving low-end power and off-the-line acceleration. Technically, this converter features furnace-brazed fins, needle bearings, a hardened pre-ground pump hub, and is computer-balanced for reliability. It is a direct bolt-in replacement requiring no modifications for compatible GM transmissions, including TH350, TH400, TH425, and TH375 models with the wide bolt pattern. Note that this unit is not compatible with standard pilot size crankshafts. For optimal performance, this converter is ideally suited for engines with mild modifications and a fair idle, typically paired with rear gear ratios between 3.00 and 3.73. Expected stall speeds range from 2200-2400 RPM for small-block engines and 2400-2600 RPM for big-block applications. It is a non-lockup style converter.
