Super Cap HEI Distributor

The TSP Super Cap HEI Distributor is designed as a direct ignition upgrade for GM 90° 4.3L (262 CID) V6 engines equipped with a carburetor. This distributor features a Super Cap, which offers a larger diameter cap compared to standard HEI units. The increased physical spacing between spark plug wire terminals helps minimize the risk of crossfire, particularly in high-performance or high-RPM applications, and also aids in routing spark plug wires in tight engine bays. The integrated 65,000-volt internal HEI coil provides a stronger, more consistent spark across the entire RPM range, eliminating the need for an external coil or ignition box as it only requires a single 12V wire for hookup. Both mechanical and vacuum advance are included, and a vacuum advance adjustment tool is provided to allow for tuning the vacuum curve to your specific engine combination. The distributor is constructed with a machined aluminum housing and steel gear. It is crucial to verify your vehicle's ignition system and engine family before ordering. This distributor is compatible exclusively with carbureted HEI ignition systems and is not suitable for TBI, CMFI, EFI, Vortec, or any computer-controlled ignition systems. The transition from carburetor to TBI occurred around 1988 for the 4.3L V6. Furthermore, this distributor is designed for the GM 90° V6 engine (which is small block-based) and is not compatible with the GM 60° V6 engines (2.8L, 3.1L, 3.4L). It is intended for use with a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator and cannot be used with a generator or a ballast resistor. Distributor gear compatibility should also be verified with camshaft material prior to installation.
