The Suburban SW12DE Direct Spark Ignition Gas/Electric Water Heater is a 12-gallon unit designed for RVs. It features direct spark ignition and can operate on both gas and electric power. The 1440-watt Incoloy electric element ensures compatibility with campground power. The water heater boasts a high recovery rate of 12,000 BTU/hour (gas). Its porcelain steel tank is insulated with foam for enhanced efficiency and includes a replaceable anode rod to counter corrosive electrolysis. The unit is housed in a one-piece, die-formed housing, protecting controls and connections while remaining easily accessible. It is designed to fit cut-out openings of prior models. Users can achieve a recovery rate of 6.1 gallons per hour using campground or generator power via the electric element, or a swifter 16.2 gallons per hour recovery when combining gas and electric. The unit undergoes two pressure tests during manufacturing to ensure integrity. An indoor-mounted switch for ignition control is sold separately, and it features a convenient exterior gas line connection. A copolymer insulation jacket meticulously fitted to retain heat further underscores its efficiency.
