Synthetic Engine Oil

Formulated from synthetic base fluids, they offer exceptional oxidation and thermal stability, along with excellent low-temperature fluidity. The high viscosity index of these oils means less change in viscosity across a wide temperature range, enabling both broader operating temperatures and improved low-temperature startup. The proprietary additive system offers superior protection against conventional wear modes like scuffing and provides high resistance to micropitting fatigue. Compared to conventional gear oils, it enhances lubrication of gearbox rolling element bearings and provides outstanding rust and corrosion protection, even with seawater contamination. The oil shows no tendency to plug fine filters, even when wet, and exhibits excellent compatibility with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, elastomers, and common gearbox materials. It also boasts outstanding EP properties for protection under shock load conditions. Mobil SHC Gear Series lubricants are recommended for enclosed industrial gear drives, including steel-on-steel spur, helical, and bevel gears. They are particularly suited for applications prone to micropitting, especially heavily loaded gearboxes with surface-hardened tooth metallurgies. These oils can also be used in gear applications experiencing extreme temperatures or severe corrosion risks. The synthetic base stocks possess inherently low traction properties, reducing fluid friction in the load zone of non-conforming surfaces like gears and bearings, which can lead to lower operating temperatures and improved gear efficiency.
