Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Upgrade Kit

The Flying Miata TPS upgrade kit is designed to replace the basic two-switch throttle position sensor found on 1990-1993 1.6L Miata NA6 models with manual transmissions. This kit provides a 0-5v linear TPS signal, which is essential for more modern aftermarket ECUs like the Hydra Nemesis and FM221, enabling improved idle control, better responsiveness to light throttle inputs, and quicker throttle change reactions throughout the entire range. Installation is straightforward, as the new TPS plugs directly into the stock wiring harness, and the included adapter plate bolts to the side of the throttle body. While the FM221 has integrated wiring, other ECUs such as Megasquirt may require wiring modifications between the ECU and the TPS connector, as detailed in the provided instructions. This kit is intended for use with aftermarket ECUs capable of processing a 0-5v linear TPS signal and is not compatible with the simple stock ECU. This TPS upgrade kit does not include the throttle position sensor itself. Options are available to purchase an OEM TPS or a factory BMW part (BMW part 13-63-1-721-456 or equivalent). The manufacturer advises against generic TPS knockoffs due to reliability concerns. It's important to note that this kit does not fit with an NB intake manifold; in such cases, a factory NB throttle body and TPS are recommended. Additionally, some supercharger setups that relocate the throttle body may cause fitment issues. The upgrade is not necessary for NA6 Miatas with automatic transmissions, as they were factory-equipped with a linear TPS. This product is also not legal for sale or use in California.
