TKX 5-Speed Manual Transmission

The American Powertrain TREMEC TKX 5-Speed Manual Transmission represents the latest generation of TREMEC's 5-speed offerings, providing significant improvements over previous TKO models. It boasts a robust construction capable of handling up to 600 lb-ft of torque and is engineered for high-RPM shifts, rated for 7,500 RPM. Key internal advancements include hybrid carbon/bronze synchronizers, wider and more durable gears, and caged needle bearings for enhanced longevity and smoother operation. The transmission's internals have been redesigned using materials like nickel-molybdenum steel to reduce noise and increase overall durability. With a dry weight of only 99 lbs, the TKX is notably lighter than many 6-speed alternatives, such as the T-56 Magnum. It retains the modular shifter location flexibility of prior generations, simplifying installation in various applications. The gear ratios are as follows: 1st gear at 2.87, 2nd at 1.89, 3rd at 1.28, 4th at 1.00, and an overdrive 5th gear at 0.81. The recommended fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts, with TREMEC High-Performance Manual Transmission fluid or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF being highly recommended. It is important to note that this transmission is not a direct bolt-in and may require adapters and/or fabrication tailored to specific vehicle specifications and engine combinations. For 302/351 engines, P/N: M-6392-R58 bellhousing is recommended, while P/N: M-6392-M46 is suitable for 4.6L/5.0L/5.2L/5.4L modular engines (these bellhousings are not included). The TKX transmission is specifically designed for RWD Ford and GM vehicles, with listed fitment including 1964.5-2022 Ford Mustangs, 1966-1977 Ford Broncos, and 1948-1979 Ford F-100s.
