This Lokar shifter is designed for vehicles equipped with a Chrysler 518 automatic transmission. It features a 16-inch double bend lever and a Venetian knob, with a black finish. The A518 transmission, also known as the 46RH/46RE, is a classic automatic overdrive transmission that evolved from the Torqueflite 727 (TF727). It was introduced by Chrysler in 1988 and features a fourth overdrive gear for improved fuel efficiency. The 46RH version (1988-1995) uses a hydraulic governor for shifting, while the 46RE version (1996-2003) utilizes electronic controls for greater precision. This transmission was primarily found in Dodge trucks and vans, and select Dodge Dakota and Dodge Durango models. Common issues with aging A518 transmissions include overdrive unit wear, torque converter clutch problems, valve body issues, governor pressure solenoid and sensor failure (in 46RE models), and a tendency to run hot.
