The Chrysler TorqueFlite A-727 (often called the 727) is a durable automatic transmission that debuted in 1962. It features an aluminum casing, three forward gears, and a parking lock. Its reputation for strength stems from a straightforward design that incorporates a licensed Simpson gear set. Over its production span, it saw minor enhancements such as updates to the shifter linkage (evolving from push-button to cable and then rod), fluid filters, output shaft design, and the integration of a wider front clutch retainer bushing in 1971. A mechanical lock-up torque converter was incorporated starting in 1978. During the 1980s, it was re-designated as the 36RH and 37RH, but these were internal names and did not signify major design alterations. This shifter is designed to be compatible with vehicles equipped with the Chrysler 727 transmission.
