The kit addresses the inherent issue of air heating up under turbo-induced pressure by effectively removing heat, thereby increasing air density. This denser air helps prevent pre-detonation or 'knock,' allowing for greater power output from the engine. While the stock TMIC is adequate for normal use, it quickly becomes heat-soaked under higher boost levels or more aggressive driving conditions, leading to a performance drop. The design prioritizes both maximum heat transfer and minimal pressure drop. It features a custom bar and plate core with optimized dimensions, fin density, and fin types for superior heat absorption and low flow restriction. Specific design elements include smooth end tank internal contours for maximum flow, a machined throttle body connection for a secure seal, and machined flange faces for pressure-tightness. Permanent mold end tank tooling and casting ensure high strength and tight tolerances, while stainless steel threaded inserts prevent thread damage. Each unit is cleaned, inspected, and sealed before shipping to prevent engine damage from foreign matter. This intercooler kit is designed for a range of Subaru models, specifically fitting the 2002-2007 Subaru Impreza WRX, the 2004-2021 Subaru Impreza STI, and the 2004-2008 Subaru Forester XT. Installation is described as relatively easy, with a recommended time of about two hours for those new to the process.
