Top Mount Intercooler Kit

The GrimmSpeed Top Mount Intercooler Kit is engineered to replace the stock intercooler on 2005-09 Subaru Legacy GT and 2005-09 Subaru Outback XT models. As turbochargers compress air, it heats up, leading to a loss of density and potential for pre-detonation. This intercooler's primary function is to remove heat from the compressed air, making it denser and allowing for increased engine output while mitigating knock. The kit utilizes a 17.5in x 8.7in x 3.5in cross-flow bar and plate core, chosen for its balance of high heat transfer and minimal pressure drop. It features cast aluminum end tanks with a machined BPV flange for a precise seal, and durable 5-ply silicone couplers designed for demanding conditions. For added durability and to prevent damage to fragile aluminum threads, stainless steel BPV studs are utilized. The intercooler system is also protected from vibration fatigue through its mounting design. Each unit is meticulously cleaned, inspected, and sealed prior to shipping to prevent foreign matter from entering the engine. Installation instructions for Subaru 08-14 WRX and 05-09 LGT models are available. The product offers superior cooling compared to the OEM TMIC, as demonstrated in testing where it maintained post-intercooler temperatures between 30-40F, whereas the OEM unit fluctuated between 35-75F under similar conditions. This consistent cooling is attributed to the high-density core design that maximizes heat transfer surface area while maintaining adequate cross-sectional flow area.
