Transmission Crossmember

The G Force Performance RCG-4L80 transmission crossmember is engineered for 1984-1988 GM RWD G-Body vehicles. It is specifically designed to accommodate 4L80 and 4L85E transmissions, making it a swap-ready solution for models such as the Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, Century, LeMans, Caballero, and Bonneville. Constructed with durability in mind, this crossmember features a black powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance and includes all required mounting hardware for installation. G Force recommends using a polyurethane transmission mount, which is available separately. Installation notes indicate that the primary frame change for 1984 GM G-Body vehicles involved the 2004R transmission, requiring the crossmember to be positioned further rearward. This is evidenced by dual frame hole sets on the driver's side. For vehicles from 1978-1983, or certain 1984 El Caminos with early frames, a G Force frame extension (GF-FE100) may be required to duplicate the factory longer frame rail; this extension is sold separately or as part of a kit (RCG-4L80K). Further installation considerations include potential need to remove the catalytic converter heat shield, and that the passenger side hump is typically taller on 78-88 G-Body crossmembers. Body bushing compression can affect fitment, with some customers successfully using a floor jack and wood cushion to create clearance. The crossmember should be installed with exhaust clearance humps closed on top and open on the bottom, and the G Force label facing the rear. The center tube has a 1/2" drain slot on the bottom, passenger-side next to the weldment.
