Transmission Crossmember with Frame Extension

The G Force RCG-400K is a transmission crossmember engineered for 1978-1983 GM RWD G-Body vehicles, including models like the Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, Century, LeMans, Caballero, and Bonneville. It is designed to fit TH400 and 2004R transmissions. This crossmember is constructed from heavy-duty steel with a durable black powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance. Mounting hardware is included for a straightforward installation. G Force has developed a specific frame extension, the GF-FE100, which is pre-packaged with this RCG-400K kit to duplicate the longer frame required for 2004R transmissions, a change implemented around 1984 models. Evidence of this frame change can be seen by two sets of frame holes on the driver side of the vehicle. Installation notes indicate that the crossmember should be installed with the exhaust clearance humps closed on the top and open on the bottom, and the G Force label facing the rear. Some installations may require the removal of the catalytic converter heat shield from the passenger side floor pan. It's also noted that due to potential body bushing compression, replacing body bushings might be necessary if floor pan clearance is insufficient. In some cases, gently lifting the floor pan with a floor jack and wood cushion can create the needed space. For mounting, it is necessary to enlarge frame rail holes to 1/2″ to use the provided 7/16″ hardware; alternatively, new Grade #8 fasteners are recommended if using stock 3/8″ hardware. A polyurethane transmission mount is recommended and sold separately (G Force GMTM). It is important to note that some 1983 Hurst Olds models with the 2004R transmission may already have the longer frame rail, negating the need for the included GF-FE100 frame extension. Conversely, some 1984 El Caminos might retain the earlier frames and still require the GF-FE100 extension.
