The EMPI 98-0453-B is a heavy-duty universal engine case designed for air-cooled Volkswagen engines. It features a bubble top or raised roof with a strong radius design that adds strength and provides clearance for up to 86mm cranks. It also features filled-in support behind cylinder #3 and comes with 8mm case savers.

The EMPI 98-0453-B Heavy Duty Universal Bubble Top Engine Case is a new construction component for air-cooled Volkswagen engines, featuring numerous design enhancements. It supports piston bores of 90.5/92mm and utilizes 8mm studs. Key features include shuffle pins on all 6 main saddles for a precise fit, drilled and tapped full-flow oiling with plugs supplied, dual relief oil galleys, and a large oil pick-up tube. Additionally, it has a filled-in support behind cylinder #3 and is ported and smoothed for improved oil flow. This case is universally compatible with VW Type 1 (Bug/Ghia) all years, Type 2 Bus/Transporter up to 1970 (single and double cab), and Type 3 (Notchback/Fastback/Squareback) all years. It includes 8mm case savers. IMPORTANT NOTES: Aluminum engine cases require a steel hub timing pulley or a bolt-in sand seal pulley kit. Trimming of fan shrouds may be necessary where the case halves meet.
