A leaky valve cover gasket can lead to significant oil messes in your engine bay, on your garage floor, and the loss of critical engine lubrication. This set is crucial for preventing oil leaks that can manifest as visible seepage down the cylinder head, a burning oil smell when the engine is hot, or even oil pooling around spark plug wells, potentially leading to misfires and ignition coil damage. When installing on an M54 engine, it's recommended to use high-temperature black RTV to seal the half-moons at the front and rear of the cylinder head, and to replace the valve cover seal washers. This gasket set is specifically designed for various BMW models including the E39 525i (M54 2.5L, up to 09/2002 production), E39 528i (M52 2.8L, from 09/1998 production), E39 530i (M54 3.0L, up to 09/2002 production), and various E46 models (323Ci, 323i, 325Ci, 325i, 325xi, 328Ci, 328i, 330Ci, 330i, 330xi) with specific production date constraints. It also fits E53 X5 (M54 3.0L), Z3 (2.3, 2.5i, 2.8, 3.0i) models, though some require using the vehicle selector to confirm exact fitment.
