APR's design focused on a valve spring, retainer, and spring seat combination that provides exceptional valve control without overpowering or damaging OEM valves or eroding aluminum spring seats. The result is an advanced system that is 28% lighter and 20% stiffer than the high-performance OEM EA113.K04 (MK6 R) setup, effectively addressing the OEM valve train's weakest link. Key features include a 20% stiffness increase and a 19% weight reduction in the springs themselves, along with a substantial 71% weight reduction in the retainers compared to the 2.0T EA113.K04 (MK6 R) components. These springs utilize a weight-saving beehive design with an ovate wire for even stress distribution, enhancing control at high RPMs and resisting harmonics that can induce valve float. The lightweight design achieves accurate valve control without the need for excessively stiff springs that could potentially snap OEM valves. Constructed with ASTM A877A OTSC round wire steel springs, 6AL4V American titanium retainers (weighing only 2 grams each), and 4140 heat-treated chrome molly steel spring seats with a black oxide coating, this kit is built for durability and performance. The spring seats are crucial for preventing distortion or erosion of the aluminum head's mating surface under increased spring pressure. Each kit contains one valve spring, one retainer, and one spring seat. For a complete engine, you will need to purchase the appropriate number of kits based on the cylinder count (e.g., 16 kits for a V8 engine). This valve spring system is designed to eliminate valve float, which can cause misfires above 5,000 RPM and limit acceleration, especially in applications with turbocharger upgrades or higher mileage vehicles where springs may have lost stiffness.
