VCU 200 Electric Vehicle Control Unit

The AEM EV Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) 200 is engineered to simplify the EV conversion process, offering powerful control for custom electric vehicle builds. This unit serves as the central nervous system for your electric powertrain, allowing for customized torque management strategies across a wide range of EV systems and component combinations. Built on OEM hardware and employing OEM-quality strategies, the VCU200 ensures a high level of reliability and safety. In its default configuration, it can manage a single inverter/motor system and communicate with up to four independent CAN bus networks. It is suitable for both direct-drive and indirect-drive EV setups, offering flexibility for various conversion projects. The VCU200 offers comprehensive primary functions, including input characterization (accelerator pedal, brake switch, PRND switches), redundancy and arbitration for safety-critical inputs, and sequential startup/shutdown of high-voltage components with independent contactor control. It also facilitates CAN message translation for components like the Battery Management System (BMS) and inverter, provides motor torque management based on vehicle operating states, and offers closed-loop motor speed regulation for indirect-drive transmissions. Further capabilities include dynamic torque limits for optimized performance and safety, accessory control for cooling pumps and fans, and robust diagnostics with fault detection for CAN message timeouts, thermal limits, and contactor/inverter enable cross-checks.
